Window Treatment Trends for 2018
It’s hard to believe that 2017 is coming to an end, and that we’re gearing up for another year of fresh ideas, new décor and fun trends. If you’re looking to change up the window treatments in your home, here are some trends for the upcoming year, as well as a look back at the popular trends of 2017
2017 Window Treatment Trends – What Stood Out?
A big trend in 2017 was the incorporation of tech in the home design industry. With most parts of our lives becoming digitized, areas like interior design also saw a shift. Motorization for convenience in the home was an exciting feature that really took off. Automated window coverings were a huge window treatment trend in 2017. With the ability to control functionalities from a smartphone or tablet, regulating your shades could be done from your bed, anywhere in the house, or even as you were on your way home.
Despite the high-tech inclusions that were popping across all interior design boards, there was a polarizing trend as well – simplicity. The blend of both tech and simple elegance saw a harmony that worked well in this contemporary age. A touch of embellishment paired with simple drapes really brought the room together in a quietly beautiful way.
2018 Window Treatment Trends – Top 3
⦁ Automated Window Blinds:
It seems like this trend is just getting started! With its mainstream debut in 2017, the new year sees a continuation of this techy design trend. Fitting in with modern and contemporary homes, but also blending in with the more classic feel, automated blinds are convenient, but also look like regular blinds. A great way to add some edge to your home, and to give yourself a little bit of extra leisure, these blinds are quickly making their way across North American homes, and are sure to become a staple in the next few years. Look out for this trend in leading design magazines and blogs.
⦁ Natural Materials:
Similarly with 2017, the new year sees a return to a simpler time. With millennials and a savvier generation influencing purchasing decisions, the demand for sustainable and eco-friendly materials is rising. Not only that, but the desire for minimalism, spaces that are calming and soothing, and interiors that evoke feelings of luxury in a simplistic way are all aspects of design that are all becoming important. Blending this with technology is the best way forward, as we want convenience but in spaces that are still homey. This blend is the perfect neutralizing effect on an otherwise uninviting space. Materials that are profound when it comes to natural blinds are bamboo or naturally woven fabrics. Bamboo is an eco-friendly resource and one that looks like regular hardwood but is cheaper, lasts for long, and looks great.
⦁ Bold, Dramatic Colours:
One of the biggest window treatment shifts going into 2018 is colour. 2017 saw a big move towards soft neutrals, greys and beiges, but 2018 is going big with the bold! Colours that most people have shied away from like bold reds, bright blues, and dramatic greens are all making a splash come 2018. With complementary colours on the softer side, curtains will be bright and bold with sheer panels underneath to soften them up. Things are getting a little edgier and more dramatic, a welcoming change from the neutral tones we have become accustomed to.
In comparison, the two seasons are simultaneously comparable, with continuing trends like automated window blinds, and also dramatically different, with natural materials and bold colours. Some other accent trends that are being seen in 2018 design books are fringe, geometric shapes and patterns, and metallics.
With a refreshing change coming with the new year, your window treatments could be in for a much-needed upgrade. Get techy-savvy and install remote controlled window blinds for a convenient and current look, one that we’re sure will be a staple to come.
