Do you find yourself constantly waiting? Waiting for someone to call, waiting for your meal in a restaurant, waiting for results of a test, waiting for a special time or day to arrive? We are always waiting for something.
I read this book and it made me realize a lot of things I never thought about before. It helped to open my eyes as it will yours too I am sure.
After losing her dream home and worldly possessions to a sudden, raging wildfire that killed three people and demolished 21 homes, Kristen Moeller dove headfirst into an exploration of our cultural discomfort with grief, the existence of God, finding humor in the midst of tragedy—and what it means to be a human being with all our fabulousness as well as frailties.
“The time has come to stop waiting for the world to make sense. The time has come to stop waiting for life to slow down and things to settle out. The time has come to live our lives anyway—in the face of waiting, of massive upheaval, as well as everyday stumbling blocks. If this really is (and I will borrow the profound words of Mary Oliver) our “one wild precious life,” what are we doing about that? Will we live in fear of the other shoe dropping? Or will we go forth anyway, into the unknown, embracing the uncertain and reveling in the wildness of the in-between?”
—Kristen Moeller, from the introduction
What Are You Waiting For? explores the following topics:
·Learning to stop waiting and start living; how to begin the journey you’ve wondered when would start.
·Overcoming obstacles: How Kristen Moeller turned her struggles with bulimia, alcohol, and drug addiction—followed by the loss of all material possessions—into a life story of compassion, renewal, and self-acceptance.
·How non-attachment living allows for a realization of the depth of the human spirit and a chance to reflect on our innate resilience.
