The Melting Pot Cookbook~ 2 Winners~ US/CANADA~ Jan. 24/14 CLOSED

The Melting Pot Cookbook, is a Jewish Grandmother's Good Old Recipes from the Good Old Days. It's not a kosher cookbook, but it does have some of that "flavor". What it does have are recipes from the "Melting Pot" (German, Italian, Chinese, etc.) ALL made with common ingredients found in any kitchen. None of the usual exotic, expensive stuff that most modern cookbooks recommend.

Everyone who has one (this is a second printing) loves it and uses it, and is happy with the unusual and attractive looking recipes. (like the 7 layer jello mold, or the triple salad mold). (Grandma thinks that entertaining is a competitive sport, and her recipes reflect that.


Let's take a look at some of the recipes in this book. There are 262 pages with titles such as: Appetizers, Soups, Entrees, Vegetables, Salada, Salad Dressings, Sauces and Stuffings, Pasta Dishes, Hot Breads, Sweet Breads, Rolls etc., Cookies and Cupcakes, Cakes, Icings, (Frostings), Glazes and Fillings, Pies and Desserts.
Some really fantastic recipes in here to please everyone. Here is one for you:

Chicken Italienne

1 2 1/2- 3 1/2 pound fryer
1 10 3/4 ounce can tomato soup
1/4-1/2 cup water
1/4 cup grated onion
1/2 teaspoon each: garlic powder, basil and oregano
1 cup Mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese

Mix tomato soup, 1/4 cup water, and all the seasonings and pour over chicken parts in well greased small roasting pan. Bake, covered, for 45 minutes. Sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese, uncover and return to oven for 20-25 minutes more baking, or until chicken parts are tender. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese when serving.
Serves 4.

Another one you might like is:
Congo Squares

2 3/4 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup margarine or Crisco
3 eggs
1 cup nuts, chopped
1 6 ounce package chocolate tidbits
1 pound package brown sugar

Mix flour, baking powder and salt and set aside. Melt margarine and place in large mixing bowl with the brown sugar and mix well. Cool slightly. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add dry ingredients, nuts and chocolate tidbits. Pour into very well greased 9 x 13 inch pan and bake in 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes. When almost cool, cut into squares.
Makes 48.

A little about the author:
Belle Serbin Fields is a lady who was 101 years young on December 17, 2013. She was born in 1912 and she has a family that extends way beyond a husband, two sons, a daughter, a daughter in law and three gorgeous grandaughters. Belle has cooked for the Serbin family reunions in Pittsburgh; she was for years Morgantown, West Virginia's "hostess-with-the-mostest", she provided the porverbial home away from home for countless college kids at West Virginia University. The family of Belle took it upon themselves to give birth to this most noble lierary effort of this most noble woman and they published this book themselves. Belle would have autographed the books but unfortunately she broke her right elbow. She fell getting out of bed in the middle of the night and broke it.
